Alejandro Corujeira

Alejandro Corujeira (Argentina, b. 1961) studied at the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires before relocating to Madrid in 1991. Rooted in pre-Columbian abstraction, his practice has evolved toward a contemplative visual language informed by Japanese poetry and minimalist music. Working with acrylic, graphite, pencil, and watercolor, Corujeira builds delicate layers of translucent color and rhythmic lines that evoke movement, silence, and introspection. Influenced by composers such as John Cage and Iannis Xenakis, he approaches painting as a form of visual music, where abstraction becomes a space for meditation and attentive looking.

His work is held in major public and private collections, including the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Blanton Museum of Art (Austin), MAMBA (Buenos Aires), and the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection (New York). In 2018, he was among the artists commissioned for an individual project at the 33rd São Paulo Biennial.
